Harpe Davids looking for participants for big corps

A one-off performance by a 'mega-corps' with percussionists and color guards. This is the project that show corps Harpe Davids hopes to get off the ground this year. The club is inviting percussionists and color guards from all over Europe to take part in this initiative.


Kidsgrove Scouts perform at Centenary Parade

In order to celebrate 100 years of scouting, the Kidsgrove Scouts 'Through the Year's Band' will lead the Centenary Parade to be held on Sunday 22nd April 2007. They are inviting members from all eras of the organisations history to take part in the parade.

Corps Style Concepts has recently revealed a new website. The Dutch collective of designers, clinicians and arrangers can now be reached at www.corpsstyleconcepts.org. The new website is the start of many new services on the internet. In a few months the website will be completed.


Millennium announces 2007 program

Millennium Drum & Bugle Corps from Verdello - Italy have announced their new show program. The title of the new show is '1492: Mundus Novus' ('New World'). The corps will take the audience to the year when Columbus discovered America.


Percussion madness at Masters of Percussion

The European Individuals & Ensembles for percussion, various master classes, an indoor percussion competition, a music academy student's final project, and Rhythm X in action: it could all be fitted in on one day.


The Blue Lions become a drum & bugle corps

The Blue Lions, the French team that was last involved in DCE during the Championships 2005, has undergone a radical change to its structure during the last ten months. With its 10 years of experience as a marching percussion unit, the board and members decided to embark on a new adventure by laying the foundations of a drum & bugle corps.

The second episode of DCI's 'Field Pass TV', produced last July, has been recognized with a bronze award at the 28th annual Telly Awards. Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as video and film productions.

Users of the online society Second Life are now able to watch DCE drum corps videos. At the virtial clubhouse of KMNL, the video clips are shown on a big screen. KMNL is a project of korpsmuziek.nl, a Dutch website dedicated to marching music.


BYBA is in great shape with 41 competing units

For 2007, the British Youth Band Association already has 41 units who have declared that they will compete in BYBA shows, of which 38 are full 'Platina Members'. It is anticipated that at least a further 5 units will join the BYBA circuit.

BYBA to trial DCE manual in 2007

The British Youth Band Association will trial the DCE manual this summer. The first trial of the DCE system will take place at the Academy Brass Show on 14th July 2007 for the Division I and Associate Class, with a further second half of consideration under review at this time.

DCN announces 2007 drum corps season

Registration for the Drum Corps Netherlands 2007 season has closed. 19 corps will enter the DCN competition this summer. The season includes three competition dates: May 19th (Voorburg), June 23rd (Dordrecht), and September 8th (DCN Finals, Dordrecht).

The Squires close down

Following the sudden death of their corps director, Robert Gillett, the Squires Drum & Bugle Corps from Crawley - West Sussex had no alternative but to close down. As a result they will sell their equipment. Gillett passed away last month at the age of 41.

During the DCUK Corps Directors College, DCUK Judges Coordinator Jason Oates reported that a high level of interest had been shown by nearly 20 judges and potential judges in attending forthcoming judges training. As an aside Jason also took the opportunity to meet and discuss further areas of cooperation with Tony Mackenzie-Jones, who was in attendance at the College representing the DCE judges Committee.

Capital Sound helps band members after tornado

On Thursday March 1st, a massive and destructive tornado swept across the South od the US. One of the hardest hit communities was Enterprise - Alabama. Several members of the school band were killed, and many more have been injured. Capitol Sound decided to help the members of the Enterprise band program.

2007 will see progress towards standard manual

The European drum corps organisations are currently working towards using the same judging manual from 2007/08. In addition, a working party will be set up to investigate the possibilities to create uniformity in the rules and regulations of all competitions, and to create a European Committee of Judges.

New leadership qualification to be piloted at festival

After two years of planning and negotiation, a qualification in 'Youth Marching Band Leadership' will be launched at the BYBA Festival of Fun and Music. With the support of its member organisations, the Federation has been working on this for more than two years. Clay Wachholz joins Northern Star staff

European judging fraternity closer to common ground

Bristol, UK was the venue for an extremely well attended seminar that covered the entire process of the Drum Corps Europe Competition Manual, concentrating on the responsibilities of the judging system, the philosophies of its application, and the physical system itself were presented by a very capable DCE judging administration and training team, lead by Adriaan De Kruiff and Tony MacKenzie-Jones.
