BYBA Festival of Fun and Music celebrates 25 years

The British Youth Band Association has announced that it's Festival of Fun and Music, which is now celebrating its amazing 25th year, looks set to be an extremely well attended affair again for 2007.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Jeff Queen DVD. Drum corps fans who sent in films for the Cinema section before 1st February had the chance of winning a DVD of the four-time world snare drumming champion, Jeff Queen. We received many films.


DCUK announces Corps Directors College

DCUK are pleased to confirm the date of the first Drum Corps United Kingdom Corps Directors College for 2007. The groundbreaking meeting will be held on Saturday 3rd March 2007 in Walsall - West Midlands.


Italy opens championship to foreign corps

For the first time, corps from outside Italy will be welcome at the Italian show championship. The Italian organisation 'Italia Marching Show Bands' hopes this will attract more corps that will provide additional extravaganza during the championship.


DCE European Championships in Rotterdam again

This year, the DCE European Championships will once again be held in the Sparta Rotterdam Stadium. This week, Drum Corps Europe and Sparta completed the final details of the agreement.


DCE Competition Manual 6.2 online

The DCE Competition Manual 6.2 can now be found on the website. There are no changes to the previous manual (version 6.1) with regard to the contest rules. However, two changes have been made to the judges section. These changes were determined during the DCE Judges Committee meeting held the day after the DCE European Championships 2006 in Rotterdam.

Rules proposal results from Atlanta

Here are the voting results of all the rules considered at the DCI rules congress in Atlanta. Three proposals were defeated in caucus sessions on Saturday and therefore did not proceed for evaluation by the DCI Board of Directors on Sunday morning. The DCI Board of Directors voted on six proposals Sunday morning.


Kiwanis Kavaliers to stay inactive for 2007

The executive board of the Kiwanis Kavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps has decided that the corps is to remain inactive for the 2007 season. The administration will utilize the coming months to plan and prepare.


DCI winter meetings open in Atlanta

Drum Corps International's 'Power of One' winter meetings and workshops are underway in Atlanta, Georgia - with a record attendance of over 360 on-hand. The meetings are a combined event for corps directors and instructors, DCI staff and judges, and the various tour event partners.


Jason Oates appointed DCUK judges administrator

New French cadet corps launched

Showband USA from Hellemmes â?? France has launched a cadet corps. The new corps started at January 3rd with eight members between 6 and 15 years old.


Two UK units registered for Masters of Percussion

The next two UK units announced to appear at The Masters of Percussion on Sunday 1st April are the Senators from Eastleigh - Hampshire and the Winter Drumline of Southern Aurora from Brighton - East Sussex, who will be joining Rhythm X from the USA along with other units from the Netherlands, UK and Belgium to provide a showcase of percussion talent.


Cavaliers cancel Europe tour

The Cavaliers have decided to forgo their planned June, 2007 competitive tour to Europe and will remain in the United States, beginning their summer competitive schedule on Saturday June 16th, in Annapolis.


DCE clips: almost 6,000 downloads in January

Last Monday the videoclips from the DCE European Championships 2006 were published on the media page of the DCE website. Four days after the clips were added, Drum Corps Europe reports almost 6,000 dowloads from the server.


Another UK unit announced for Percussion Live

DCA introduces minimum size for corps

Nearly two dozen drum corps were represented at the biennial Rules Congress, held January 13th-14th in Newark - New Jersey. One of the decisions made during the congress was the introduction of a minimum size for corps that want to compete in the Drum Corps Associates competition.


Midsomer Norton Marching Brass celebrate 25 years

On New Years Eve, Midsomer Norton Marching Brass achieved its 25th anniversary. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the band has a reunion party arranged for Friday January 26th at Prattens Social club. The President of the British Youth Band Association (BYBA), Mr Bob Girvan, will attend to hand out attendance certificates to present members.

Concord to enter BYBA Competitions for 2007

Concord Drum & Bugle Corps has now confirmed their 2007 summer contest season entries. They remain fully committed to DCUK and will be appearing at all three regional shows and DCUK Finals. The corps will compete in the National Open Class. To complete their summer contesting schedule, Concord will be applying to enter two BYBA contests â?? at Batley and Stafford. They will apply to compete in BYBA Division 1.


BYBA judges adjudicate New Year Day's parade

The British Youth Band Association continues to support Destination Events/London Parade New Year Day Parade. This year was Roy Powell's sixth attendance as a judge plus this year Paul Cartwright was also honored to be invited to join the international judging panel to cover the bands and corps on the parade and the concerts.


Another good year for the DCE website

Once again, 2006 brought with it an increase in the number of visitors to the DCE website. The internet site of Drum Corps Europe, including the forums of drumcorpstalk.com, was visited almost 375,000 times.


2007 DCI rules proposals published

Raising corps membership limits and allowing use of electronic instruments, among seven other proposals up for discussion at January DCI board meeting. Submissions have come from George Hopkins (The Cadets), Jeff Fiedler (The Cavaliers), David Gibbs (Blue Devils), and George Oliviero (DCI judge administration).


First UK units for Percussion Live announced

European organisations ask DCEE to change name

All European organisations active in the drum corps activity have asked Rob van Koningshoven to consider a name change of his organisation DCEE (Drum Corps Events Europe). The European allies are worried that the name could cause confusion inside and outside Europe.


Yokoma Inspires top Drum Corps Japan contest

The Yokohama Inspires topped the Drum Corps Japan contest that took place last Saturday in Soka University's Main Gymnasium in Hachioji. The Yokohama Scouts came in second.


First BYBA marching boot camp great success

Trinity High School in Nottingham was the venue for the first ever marching boot camp, an event designed to promote and encourage the principals of marching movement. 36 marching members and staff took part in the pilot event on December 2nd.


DCP announces fantasy drum corps site

Drum Corps Planet publisher John Donovan has announced a new website dedicated to the fantasy drum corps activity. The new site will be the home of Drum Corps Planet International (DCPI) - a 'Fantasy Drum and Bugle Corps circuit' which is comprised of member 'corps' that 'compete' against one another - using current-season or historic DCI corps statistics as the basis for their scoring system.

DCN Finals in Dordrecht through 2009

The Drum Corps Netherlands Championships will be held in the FC Dordrecht stadium the next three years. DCN chairman Kees Bourquin and FC Dordrecht president Ad Heijsman signed a multi-year contract last Friday during a press conference at the stadium.


37th Kingswood to compete at BYBA competitions

Many well-known top corps have once again signed up to compete for the European title, whilst a few interesting new participants will also be performing. BYBA and MPA-UK announce strategic partnership

Showband USA announces 'Farscape'

Showband USA is pleased to announce their 2007 concert program, 'Farscape'. The program, arranged by Isabelle Eggermont, Pierre Lignée, Benoit Sueur and Jérôme Capoen, is comprised of three diverse movements with a rock feel: 'Svengali', 'Wild Dance' and 'Duel of the Fates'.
