Stafford Lancers 2007: 'Fiddler on the Roof'

Publish Date: 13 Jan 2007 - 693 views

This years creative team are bringing you 'Fiddler on the Roof'. Music Arrangements are by Jay Howard (brass and front ensemble), Adam Lowes (drums) with visual designs by David Milton (visual design) and Jenna Riley (choreography).

'Fiddler on the Roof' is regarded as one of the most famous stage and film musicals. It opened on Broadway on September 22nd, 1964 with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and libretto by Joseph Stein.

The musical was revived on Broadway for the fourth time in 2004, with Alfred Molina (and later Harvey Fierstein) as Tevye and Andrea Martin (and later Rosie O'Donnell) as Golde. The revival closed in 2006.

The story is loosely based on Tevye the milkman by the Russian Jewish author Sholom Aleichem, originally published in 1949. The best-known songs from the tuneful but unconventional score are 'If I Were a Rich Man', 'Sunrise, Sunset' and 'Matchmaker, Matchmaker'. The Broadway production of 'Fiddler on the Roof' won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Lancers will be bringing Tevye and the traditions to life for the 2007 season. An old favourite on and off the drum corps field, Lancers are looking at bringing a different touch to the musical arrangements as well as buidling for the future.

Corps Director Dave Milton said: "With 2007 being such an important year within the direction of UK drum corps and bands we felt we needed to put together a show that would help develope and challenge our returning members as well as build and encourage our new young and inexperienced members."
