DVDs and CDs available mid January

Due to a technical hold-up, there will be a delay in the supply of the DVDs and CDs from the DCE Championships 2005. Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet the end of December deadline. It is likely to be only a short delay.


Glassmen Director speaks at European DCI Fan Day

Brian Hickman, Executive Director for the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps recently took a three day whirlwind tour of France, Belgium, Netherlands and England to finalize the details for the corps' upcoming summer tour of Europe.


Phantom Regiment faces $367K lawsuit

The Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps is being sued for defaulting on a $450,000 bank loan. The suit lists Rescomm Holdings No. 2 LLC, as the plaintiff. According to the suit, the Rockford-based Phantom Regiment took out a $450,000 loan on March 7th, 2000, but has failed to maintain payments.


Alliance Drum & Bugle Corps (UK) is Launched

Alliance Performing Arts Foundation have announced the launch of Alliance Drum & Bugle Corps. The aim is to have a fully competitive unit in time for the 2007 marching season by developing new talent in the Colchester area.


Mike Stevens to lead workshop in Rastede

Percussion instructor Mike Stevens will lead a percussion workshop in Rastede - Germany next month. Stevens is well known as former percussion caption head of Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps from Denver - Colorado.


Joint judging clinics by DCG and DCE

Drum Corps Germany and Drum Corps Europe will join forces regarding judges clinics. DCE organised a judging clinic in 2005 with DCI judge Bob Thomas. The next edition of the judging clinic will be hosted by Drum Corps Germany, on February 4th and 5th, 2006.

Distant Thunder will enter DCUK

In 2006 Distant Thunder will compete in three different competitions. The corps will enter BYBA Division 1, DCE Open Class and venture into drum corps via a judged performance at a DCUK show.


UK top corps enter DCE Championships

For the first time ever, all the best English drum corps will be attending the European drum corps championships next year. Senators, Kidsgrove Scouts, Northern Star and Black Knights will be taking part in the competition. The Dutch and German top teams will also be present.


DCE European Championships 2006 corps line-up

The corps line-up for the DCE European Championships 2006 is known. The maximum number of 26 corps will enter the event on Saturday, September 23rd. Many participants from 2005 will be returning, but there will also be some new faces.


Brass Impact partner with Holiday Inn Group

Dutch Boy to play music from South Park

Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corps from Kitchener - Ontario will be playing music from 'South Park the Movie' in 2006. The musical program will include 'Blame Canada'.

Gavin Johnson elected as new DCUK Chairman

The 2005 DCUK Annual General Meeting was held in Stafford on Sunday 4th December was well attended by representatives of corps, guards and the judging community. Gavin Johnson was elected as the new chairman.


A new American community website in the works

Drumcorpsnation.com is a new community website for drum corps that will launch next year. The new website will include news, scores, press releases, podcasts, plus a 'new open and more relaxed forum discussion section'.

Drum Corps Planet community has been sold

The sale of Drum Corps Planet has been finalised. During the past week there was a great deal of interest in purchasing the site. While the financial transaction has been completed, it will take the next 60 days to work through the details of full transition to the new ownership.

Spanish-Latin show for Kidsgrove Scouts

The 2006 show of The Kidsgrove Scouts will portray the way modern Spanish Art has developed, alongside modern Spanish dance since the Spanish Civil War. The music will be taken from extremely well know Spanish-Latin pieces as well as some more unfamiliar works.


Three days left to register for DCE 2006!

European corps still have until this coming Wednesday to register for the DCE European Championships 2006. Wednesday evening (Novemberm 30th) is the deadline for registration, which can easily be done via the online registration form.


Mike New and Nick Emmett join DCE editorial team

Michael (Mike) New and Nick Emmett will be reinforcing the editorial team of the English version of the DCE website (www.drumcorps.org.uk). They will be responsible for editing English-language news bulletins. Mike was recently in charge of Drum Corps Planet, a large American drum corps website. Nick is Caption Head Percussion with Northern Star.


Barry Oosterwaal joins Kidsgrove Scouts staff

The Kidsgrove Scouts have announced that Barry Oosterwaal has joined the 2006 brass staff line-up. Barry Oosterwaal began his life in music in 1987 as a baritone player with the Jong Jubal Drum & Bugle Corps in Dordrecht - The Netherlands, moving Jubal in 1990.


Forgemen 2006: 'Out of This World'

Forgemen have announced their 2006 production. The show is entitled 'Out of This World', and will include selections from 'The Planet Suite', and episodes 1 to 6 of 'Star Wars' by John Williams.


DCF will start French competition in 2007

Drum Corps France intends to support its member corps with clinics and education. Several private clinics have been arranged for late 2005 and 2006, with the goal of improving the artistic and musical level of association members. In addition, DCF has organised a full slate of contests for the coming years.


DCF General Assembly: new corps welcomed

On Saturday, November 7th, the Federation for Drum Corps and Marching Bands of France (DCF) held its annual General Assembly. Delegations of corps from Pas de Calais, Nord, Aisne, Ariège, Loiret, Indre et Loire, Moselle and Val d'Oise gathered for a long day of discussions on topics.

Kidsgrove Scouts announce new winter project

The Kidsgrove Scouts have announced their winter 2006 programme 'In the Club'. The project consists of brass, guard and percussion, is open to all age members, and will run from November to March.


Stafford Lancers move to DCUK Open Class

Stafford Lancers have announced that for 2006 season they will be entering DCUK Open Class for the first time in their history. The decision comes after many many years of gradual progression, every year since rebuilding in 2001 the corps achieved their aim of steadily improving and growing their membership.


Cavaliers' 2006 program to be titled 'Machine'

The deceptively rhythmic processes of simple machines and the ominous presence of compound automation from the past, present and future will be revealed on the field this summer by the Green Machine. The program, presented with 72 brass, 32 color guard and 28 percussion, will be adapted from the music of Marco Beltrami and Wynton Marsailas.


DCN announces management team

Magic announce their 15th anniversary show

The Magic Drum & Bugle Corps will celebrate their 15th anniversary with an imagery of mind, heart and soul. John Lennon's haunting anthem of hope, 'Imagine', serves as the framework for the four sections of the 2006 program of The Magic: 'Joy', 'Love', 'Peace' and 'Hope'. These sections may include the music of Los Angeles composer Eric Whitacre and the motion picture soundtrack of Moulin Rouge.


Successful DCUK Task Force

Several corps delegates took part in the DCUK Task Force this past weekend in Northampton. The group worked extremely hard (including a 12-hour session on Saturday) and covered a wide range of topics concerning the future of the drum corps activity in the UK.


Acheson celebrates 10 years as DCI director

This past Tuesday was DCI executive director Dan Acheson's 10th anniversary in that role. That night DCI colleagues gathered at a restaurant near the DCI office to toast Dan, and presented him with a World Championship ring commemorating the 1975 Madison Scouts victory. Dan was a baritone player in that corps.

Northern Star announces its 2006 production 'Time'

Northern Star Drum & Bugle Corps from Leeds has announced its 2006 production. The show is called 'Time'. Northern Star will musically and visually portray various elements of time - 'Time Motifs', 'Vertical Momentum', 'Persistence of Memory', and 'Rhythmic Time'.

Today, the registration period for the DCE European Championships has begun. Corps teams will be able to register during the whole of November. The participants list will be published mid-December.


A 'stomping' great day for Concord

This week, 30 members of Concord Drum & Bugle Corps from Sheffield and Poynton Commodores had a full-day workshop with members of world-famous performance group STOMP. The event, held at Concord's Sheffield headquarters featured 7 hours of very energetic percussion and performance activity.


Valenzuela joins Phantom Regiment

Rick Valenzuela has joined the Phantom Regiment as director of development and special projects to its management team. Valenzuela, 37, has a long and distinguished career in the drum corps activity beginning as a member of the world-renowned Santa Clara Vanguard in 1983.


130 attend Starriders open house and workshop

Last Saturday, more than 130 people from Germany and the United States participated in one of the largest open house workshops ever held in Germany. The open house was held by Starriders Drum & Bugle Corps from Bad Münder.


High Brass to perform in New York

High Brass have been selected to perform at the 33rd International Alliance of Jazz Educators Conference in New York next year. Chosen on the strength of the band's recent studio album, 'Time For A Change', the band were selected from over 4000 other applicants and are the only British big band performing at this year's event.


New DCA corps on the horizon: The Austin Stars

The Austin Stars are a new all age or senior drum & bugle corps based in Austin - Texas. Membership is open to adults age 18 and up who have previous experience in marching band, color guard, drumline or drum & bugle corps.
