130 attend Starriders open house and workshop
Last Saturday, more than 130 people from Germany and the United States participated in one of the largest open house workshops ever held in Germany. The open house was held by Starriders Drum & Bugle Corps from Bad Münder.
After the introduction of the staff and techs by corps director Kerstin Schulze, the day started with a group M&M block, where the sections worked on the basics of marching movement. In the afternoon, the brass section focused on basics and learning 'America the Beautiful', the drumline focused on rudimental technique as well as learning a cadence, and the front ensemble spent time on basics and exercises. The guard, led by section co-heads Melanie Schiebler (Crossmen) and Monika Horn, also spent time on fundamentals.
At the end of the day the corps demonstrated the day's efforts to an appreciative crowd at the Abraham-Lincoln-School in Bad Münder. And after the 'official' end of the open house workshop, there was, of course, time for the Kick-Off Party in the Starriders Hall.
The Starriders are looking forward to an extremely promising 2006 season. The goals and expectations are high and a highly talented group of international arrangers, staff and supporters plan to make this season the best yet for the corps. A large number of veterans are returning and many new members from Germany and the US have given their commitment to producing a championship show.
The Starriders' 2006 program is titled, 'The Blue Ball', and depicts with sound and color a journey around our mother planet. The adventure begins in Europe, represented by green and the bulgarian choir music 'Kaval Sviri'. The audience is then whisked across the ocean to North America and the blue jazz of George Gershwin's 'Summertime'. The thundering sound of an original percussion feature brings us to the the yellow-colored Asian lands, and the journey concludes in South America, with the sultry tango heartbeat of 'El Tango de Roxanne' demonstrating the passion of the red continent.
