DCI investigates acoustics in Lucas Oil Stadium
Drum Corps International has acknowledged the acoustic problems at the DCI Championships this summer in the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. After the Championships, fans discussed the sound quality of the stadium. DCI will now look into how the acoustics can be improved.
A number of surfaces, including plate glass windows on luxury boxes, concrete walls within the stadium seating bowl and the steel roof structure provided ample opportunity for sound to bounce around, ultimately diminishing the highly personal experience for a number of ticket holders. DCI will now discuss improvements that could be made to the stadium with experts both inside and outside the drum corps world.
Moving the event is not an option, stresses DCI's Director of Marketing, Bob Jacobs. With a commitment to a long-term partnership with the city hanging in the balance along with the logistical and planning requirements which support a World Championship event several years in advance, all resources are focused on a systematic series of improvements.
DCI has entered into a ten year agreement with the Lucas Oil Stadium.
