The Bridgemen have returned

Publish Date: 11 Jan 2005 - 1361 views

The first rehearsal of The Bridgemen Drum & Bugle Corps from Bayonne - New Jersey in 17 years was a resounding success as veterans and new members alike were excited to see the Bridgemen resurrected before their eyes. The halls of St. Andrew's were alive again with the sound and vitality of a new Bridgemen corps, determined to resurrect a form of entertainment beloved and missed by many in the activity.

The first practice day proved a success with over 100 people in attendance, with dozens more who are signed up, paid up, and eager to be a part of the organization in coming rehearsals.

Larry Kerchner led the hornline, with assistance by Brain Law, in teaching the parts and getting the brass players from just playing notes to playing musically. Dennis DeLucia flew back into town and arrived to find a drumline eager and willing to get to work. The drumline was excited to be back under the tutelage of Dennis, the man who steered the drumline to three straight drumline titles. The color guard, under the expert guidance of Matt Hurley, began learning the flag work and dance choreography.

After hours of sectionals, everybody came together in the gym for 'Show and Tell', an ensemble performance to show off what had been learned. The emotion was palpable in the room as the members had the chance to see each other performing as Bridgemen again. There were many tears in the room. So many have waited so long to see and hear this again. Overall the people walked away feeling good about the accomplishments.
