Cavaliers announce 2004 Japan Trip

Publish Date: 14 Oct 2004 - 1046 views

On Saturday, October 16, eighty members of The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps will come together in Rosemont - Illinois. to begin three days of marathon rehearsals. This gathering precedes their October 19 departure from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago for a 13-hour flight to Nagoya - Japan.

While in Japan, the corps will be the featured performers at a fall music festival sponsored by the city of Takasaki. Corps members also will perform in several concerts, parades and clinics while visiting Nagoya, Hammatsu and Takasaki, all cities on the main Japanese island, Honshu.

"This is an opportunity for The Cavaliers to perform and share their experience with their many Japanese fans," said Bruno Zuccala, Cavaliers' assistant corps director. "Besides the cultural opportunities this trip will afford, the chance for the corps members to share this trip together as a group continues to make their Cavalier relationships incredibly strong and unmatched in the activity."

The corps has had strong ties to Japan for many years. Traditionally, a very talented pool of individuals travels all the way from Japan each winter to tryout for the corps. Two Japanese members of the 2004 Cavaliers will meet up with the group upon arrival in Nagoya.

As 2004 Drum Corps International World Champions, many of The Cavaliers' members have not seen each other since the end of the season in mid-August. They are looking forward to being back together to perform as the 2004 Cavaliers for one last time. Of the 80 members making the trip, only approximately 20 have ever had a chance to travel internationally. Even Chris Lugo, Cavaliers' assistant drum major who was born at Maisawa Naval Base in Japan, has not had a chance to visit the country since he moved away as a young child.
