Name: Pien Jong
DCE position: tabulator
Age: "Between 40 and 100"
Residence: Hilversum NL
Job: team manager in a care hospital
Drum corps history: "I don't
have one. I met drum corps through Adriaan (DCE judge administrator).
We traveled to the US in 1992, and I was blown away by the drum corps
shows I saw. At a Drum Corps Holland contest in 1997 the tabulator got
ill, so they asked me to do it."
Working for DCE since: "The beginning."
Why? "When DCE was founded,
they asked Adriaan to judge and I was asked to be the tabulator. So I'm
involved in DCE from their 'indoor years'. When I started in 1997, I
manually had to enter and check all scores. Now, there is a spreas
sheat application that does the work for me."
Is it fun off the field? "I
still like it very much. I'm the first to know all scores, but
obviously I'm not allowed to say anything to anybody. Before the scores
are announced, contest director Kees Kopmels checks all scores to make
sure there are no mistakes or omissions."
Greatest drum corps memory:
"The first moment I saw 'live' drum corps: in 1992 in Madison, when The
Marauders performed their show. I remember Adriaan asking if it wasn't
too loud for me. But I loved it. I've been a drum corps fan from that
moment."
