Ending a 40-year 'tradition', Drum Corps Associates has discontinued the use of a starter's pistol by the Timing & Penalties judge. The 'final shot' was fired by Timing & Penalties judge Tom Argy at the 2004 Championship Finals.

The proposal was approved at the bi-annual DCA Rules Congress that took place in Scranton - Pennsylvania. This is the one opportunity every two years for the corps to modify or 'tweak' the rules they compete under.

A proposal to allow amplification of pit percussion instruments was rejected in the percussion caucus, and as such, was not referred to the member body for approval.

Class A Championship, which has consisted of the top 2 Class A corps from prelims, has been expanded from 2 to 3 corps, reflecting the growth of the Class A segment of DCA. The Class A Championship will continue to be held on Sunday night, prior to the start of Open Class Finals.
