Band contest approaches £25,000 of giving
Some people may not realize but for many the benefit that a small donation to a worthy cause brings can make the world of a difference in so many ways. None know this more than the Contesting Committee of the Colchester Band Contest, Directed by former BYBA Communications Chairman, Barry Vernon.
Every year, Barry and his Committee select a cause that affects the lives of Children in some way shape or form, and proceeds from the Contest are then donated to that worthy cause. So far, almost £25,000 worth of donations to worthy Children's causes has passed from the Colchester Contesting Committee into their hands.
For the 2008 season, Barry experienced a close friends Son's died of an undetected Heart Condition. He was only 28 years old. When looking for a worthy cause, it was clear that an organization that works in the field of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was in some small way recognizing the efforts that would help to detect and prevent this sort of tragic event happening in others.
It costs £35 per screening and so Marcus Armstrong's parents, Tony and Jackie, have been on a mission to raise £15,000 to allow the screening of young people from the age of 14 to 35 locally. CRY have a mobile unit that they take around the country and by raising the sum of £15,000 this would allow the screening of up to 250 young people in the local area to where the Colchester Contest Operates.
Tony and Jackie have dedicated their efforts to help prevent other parents from going through the pains that they have felt. Up until Marcus' tragic and unsuspected death, he had lead a healthy and active life, enjoying Golf to a high standard.
Thanks to the magnificent efforts of the whole Committee at the Colchester Contest, a cheque for £1,200 was donated to this very worthy cause.
