On the Road 2008 surfs into Newquay

Publish Date: 02 Aug 2008 - 724 views

On 'Yorkshire Day', Thursday 1st August, everyone on tour became honorary Yorkshire Folk as BYBA surfed into Newquay. The 'stage' for today's performances was a sloping lawned area overlooking the iconic bay at Newquay, therefore other than the NSG Guard providing some movement, there was no marching in today's performances.

This did not however detract from the entertainment value and enjoyment for the hundreds of holidaymakers and the BYBA 'cast', themselves. The audience were encouraged by MC Mark to support each ensemble in different parts of the grassy area, starting at the top of the slope (having found a tarmac surface), with NSGs percussive and vocal basketball ensemble.

Poynton Commodores then arced up to play in concert, followed by the NSG Guard. During each performance tour support staff circulated the audience with collecting buckets, in order to pass some cash back to each unit for their efforts.

Association Chair, Tony Patrick, joined the tour today with Sharron, and up to the rain coming where Tony was heard to say "It's spoiling my hair", but seriously, Tony said "It was good to see the young members having a great time, entertaining the appreciative audience and all this is good for BYBA and the wider marching arts activity across the UK." Tony went onto say, "So often we perform to each other, so it's great to take what we do best, to the public."

Performances continued with the NSG Big Band and Samba Band, followed by Warwick Girls in concert, and concluding after the sun hid itself behind the approaching clouds, with a very wet and windy Finale, as all three units performing Dancer in the Dark.
