Cadets 2005: music, arts, film and literature

Publish Date: 08 Dec 2004 - 630 views

'The Zone; Dreamscapes in Three Parts; with a Door' is the title of the 2005 production from the Cadets, the corps announced Monday. In a statement released on the Youth Education in the Arts website, the music will feature the works of such performers and compsers are Bjork, Jay Bocook, and Bernard Hermann.

Inspired by the movies 'Dancer in the Dark' and 'Kill Bill', and stirred by the musical ideas of Eric Whitacre and others. This new and different production is an attempt at surrealism within the confines of the marching music idiom.

Over the space of three productions, and an introduction, the corps does not provide a description but rather, a look at how the concepts of surrealist art, music, literature and film can be combined with the media of drum corps to produce a show that can be both intellectually stimulating and entertaining.

In asking Marc Sylvester words that came to mind when describing the show, his response was " Wild, humorous, traditional, experimental, obvious, and confusing. He continued, "We hope for the program to be a combination of Cirque du Soleil meets the Twilight Zone, Minimalism meets Bocock, or Bjork meets Tarrantino."

Not the typical Cadet production of recent times, this effort is certain to excite any audience member. Broadway productions, inventive percussion features, and a ballad that is not a ballad at all, are just some of the ideas moving towards fruition.
