Revolution Show Corps tour of Belgium 2007

Publish Date: 29 Aug 2007 - 844 views

Revolution Show Corps have recently returned from a short tour of Belgium. Traveling via Dover to Bruges after a 12.30am start the corps arrived Thursday afternoon. After a quick unpack at their base the Europa Youth Hostel, the band headed to the local brewery for a guided tour and light refreshments.

Friday saw the corps traveling to Bobbejaanland theme park, where they did two short concerts before spending the rest of the day enjoying the sunshine and the many great rides on offer, including the well named Revolution ride.

Saturday started with sight seeing in Bruges and a visit to the Choco story museum before boarding the coach and heading to the coastal resort of Ostende. A parade down the much crowed promenade announced their arrival before heading to Wapenplein square for a 30 minute concert.

Inviting the crowd to join the fun Revolution were a great success and highlights include the stag parties joining the action, don't ask about the dancing baby, and heading into the crowd to dance away to Soul Bossa Nova.

Sunday was a more formal day with the corps heading down to Ypres. On route time was spent at Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest military cemetery on the Western front. The first performance of the day was a relaxed concert with the Corps and crowd taking shelter from the rain.

After time in the In Flanders Field museum, the more formal Scout uniform was put on before the corps marched to the Menin Gate to take part in the Last Post Ceremony. Performing two hymns and the Belgium and British National Anthems, the corps added to the sense of occasion. Monday saw the tired corps set off on the long journey home, with plenty of chocolate and beer to keep the Belgium memories strong.

For their tour to Belgium, Revolution was joined by members of Kingston Shadows, Halifax BB & GB band and the Downsmen Corps. The tour was organized through Rayburn Tours. (Text: nasr.og.uk)
