Jubal acts out murder case in 'The Deadly Game'

'The Deadly Game' is the name of the new show by Jubal Drum & Bugle Corps from Dordrecht about a murder case. "This is the first time that Jubal is acting out a true story in a show", says programme coordinator Ruben Lourens.

The new show is about a murder on a gray rainy morning in Orange Street in London. The case is investigated by Sherlock Holmes, who received a WhatsApp message at the time of the murder with the text: "Let's play a game. Come to Orange Street." Holmes is challenged to play a dangerous game with the killer.

The music pieces of the show include 'Discombobulate' (Hans Zimmer), 'Distorted' (Cirque Du Soleil), 'Corridors and Fire Escapes' (from Doctor Who), 'Skyfall' (Adele) and 'I Am the Doctor' (from Doctor Who).

Whilst last year's show mainly had a musical theme, this year Jubal's show will really tell a story. "We were looking for a way to convey emotions to the audience so that the story of the show is understood better", explains Jubal's programme coordinator Ruben Lourens.

That story must go beyond a storyline on paper. "The audience will really need to be able to see at what point they are in this story. Moments like the tension created, Holmes sitting on the sofa at home thinking, a chase. If we act out the big things, people will understand that."

Unlike the previous show, writing started very early this time. This has already had an effect, according to Lourens. "This time last year, we had only rehearsed one music piece. Now we are already at the point that everything has been written except for one piece." Detail: the point in the previous show where someone is shot will be the start of the new show.
