Andy Hewlett is appointed DCE project manager
Drum Corps Europe have appointed Andy Hewlett from Bristol as new project manager. Within the DCE management team, Andy will be in charge of various projects, mainly new ones.
"DCE have reinvigorated the interest in the activity in Europe to a level of which hasn't been seen for many years, and I am delighted to have been asked to join the management team", said Andy. "I hope that my contribution will help to build on the successes that they have achieved in the last few years."
Andy Hewlett has been involved with Drum Corps Europe for a few years now. He has been the announcer at the DCE European Championships since 2004, as well as Kortrijk show last year which featured the Blue Devils. DCE is especially pleased that Andy will be coming to strengthen the team. "We've philosophised together on the future of drum corps on various occasions", says Chairman Marcel Matthijsse. "His vision and ideas tie in perfectly with our own. We are really looking forward to working with Andy in the management team."
After getting involved with marching bands through the Scouts, Andy began his Drum Corps career in 1978 as a member of City of Bristol, who were one of the founder member Corps of DCUK in 1980. Andy became one of the first Europeans to march with a DCI corps in 1983, when he played for Alliance of Greater Boston. A year later he marched his age out year with the legendary 27th Lancers.
In 1986 he set up his own corps Pride of Bristol, which he took on a tour to DCI in 1994, and stayed involved with up until last year. The organisation now runs 3 thriving Winterguard units that compete in WGUK.
