Kidsgrove Scouts prolong their DCUK title

Publish Date: 18 Sep 2011 - 971 views

Yesterday, the Kidsgrove Scouts prolonged their Drum Corps United Kingdom Open Class title. The corps from Stoke-on-Trent ended in first place, three tens ahead of The Company from Barnsley, scoring 80.25 points.

Last year, the scores of the two top corps led to a tie. Due to the Kidsgrove Scouts' higher score in the Effect caption (a rule at DCUK), Kidsgrove won the competition. This year, the rule wasn't necessary. The Company did win three captions: brass, percussion and visual. Colour guard and effect went to the Kidsgrove Scouts. The Company scored 79.95.

A solid third place went to the Black Knights, and this year they have reduced the gap between themselves and the top two. Last year, there were nearly five points between them, whilst last night's spread between the Black Knights and The Company was just over two points (77.80). Other corps in the Open Class included The 6th (70.25), Poynton Commodores (65.80), Staffordshire Knights (64.10), Spirit of Coventry (59.95), Revolution Corps (53.40) and Phantom Knights (50.85).

The A Class title went to Revolution Corps (54.40), with the Phantom Knights in 2nd place (51.45). Kidsgrove also did well in the Junior Class, where the Kidsgrove Scouts Juniors comfortably came first with 56.30. 37th Kingswood Cadets were second (50.95), the Black Knights Cadets third (50.55) and Concord Allstars fourth (47.30).
