30 judges to enter DCE Judges College
The DCE Judges College for 2011 takes place this weekend. "Judges and trainees are traveling from Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and Italy to participate in the training event", says DCE Adjudication manager Douglas Caldwell. The first session commences on Friday 20th May at 21.00h and closes on Sunday 22nd May.
"I am really excited of the prospect of 30 judges/trainees attending the college" comments Bob Thomas, DCE Director of Education. "There is a very full agenda to complete in a very short time, which will be very challenging, but I hope very educational and enjoyable" he continues.
Over the weekend, 'certification' and 're-certification' tests will be undertaken by all judges and trainees. Sessions include 'music writing', 'what is effect' and a live 'use of body/equipment'. This is in addition to the 'Accountabilities of Judging' and 'Principles of Scoring', including 'Number Management'. The caption heads Jim Lauver (Visual), Marco Harder (Music) and Douglas Caldwell, DCE Adjudication Manager will assist Bob with delivery of many of the sessions.
Douglas is very grateful to Ray Westbrook, The Pacemakers Drum & Bugle Corps, who are hosting the event. Paul Richards, Black Knights Corps Director will provide a few performers to assist in the 'body/equipment' session.
Bob Thomas also invites any instructors/designers who wish to come along on the Saturday to observe training. However the event is aimed at the judges and trainees. If you are able to attend, please contact Douglas Caldwell on douglas@drumcorpseurope.org.
