Madison Scouts’ 2005 program: The Carmen Project

Publish Date: 09 Nov 2004 - 808 views

In a move guaranteed to generate controversy, the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps announced their 2005 program, 'The Carmen Project'. A modern fusion of the world's favorite opera with the looks and sounds of the street, 'The Carmen Project' takes Bizet's passionate score and breaks it wide open with Santana, Ravel and Bernstein.

"We want to reinvent the kind of world-class production that generates heat," stated executive director Sal Salas, "so we're ready to intensify the emotion and power of today's Scouts. Our fans said they wanted more fire, more strength and more heart. Believe me, this show has it, but with a surprising edge."

Melodies from the most popular opera in the world, and exotic Latin and dance rhythms, collide in 'The Carmen Project' to evoke the urban brotherhood, the fraternity of the street, and the dangerous shifts of fate that haunt that world. A massive concept that demands an innovative attack on the musical and visual source material, 'The Carmen Project' grabs the sudden shock of destiny and temptation and sends them on an emotional roller coaster ride, delivering the kind of thrill only Madison can deliver.

The Scout 'DNA' has always been defined by the freedom to explore the widest range of program choices, giving every show a special twist. Marching the largest horn line in their history, the Madison Scouts will provide their membership with a 2005 program that puts a fresh spin on the famous bond the corps has with the audience. In 'The Carmen Project', guts and intrigue ignite the Bizet masterwork, creating a groundbreaking experiment with the Madison signature.
