Name: Erik Janssen
DCE position: 'allrounder'
Age: 32
Residence: Oost-Souburg
Job: "I have my own business: Javé Horren."
Drum corps past: "In 1983, I
joined Blue Spirit, where I played trumpet and double-bass. I stayed
until the final year, 1998. During this period, I also spent time in
America. In 1992, I was in Limited Edition; unfortunately, this was
their last year in DCI. In 1993, I was in Dutch Boy."
With DCE since: "It was set up."
Why? "I don't have the time anymore to belong to a corps, but in this way I can still stay involved. I enjoy it."
Do you enjoy being off the field?
"It's great seeing it all, especially the developments within the
corps. I particularly enjoy being involved in the Finals with the
British, Germans and Dutch.
I don't really have a fixed job at Drum Corps Europe. I'll be filming
for the DVD recordings at one moment, and another moment be checking
the tickets or manning the helpdesk. I like the variety and it's a
great group to work with."
Best drum corps moment: "The
Finals in 1997 with Blue Spirit. That was the best year and everything
went perfectly during the finals. We had a fantastic show and the
audience was enthusiastic.
One memory with DCE which stands out in particular was the first
outside finals in The Hague. I thought it was a good idea to move the
competition outside, a lot better than inside. We also had a full house
straightaway. After being away for such a long time, the whole drum
corps atmosphere returned. It was a real kick!"
