DCE Close Up (8): Brian
In the DCE Close Up series you will meet the DCE personnel. Who are these people behind the scenes who offer their leasure time to run drum corps events? In this episode we'll meet Brian Matthijsse.
Name: Brian Matthijsse
DCE function: Runner
Age: 16
Residence: Oost-Souburg
Study: Higher General Secondary Education
Drum corps history: "Although I like watching drum & bugle corps, I never marched. I've been playing in a soccer team since I was eight years old. So I don't have much leasure time left to join a corps.
Working for DCE since: 2002
Why? "I like the drum corps activity. A few years ago when my dad (DCE chairman Marcel) was still a marching member, I visited rehearsals and performances. And now I'm glad I can help in a drum corps organisation. I'm a runner in DCE, so my responsibility is to bring sheets and cassette tapes where they are needed."
Is it fun off the field? "Absolutely. My sister Nicole and my dad are in DCE as well, and it's a great nuch of people. When there is a contest on the same date as a soccer game of my team, I choose DCE. I've told my friends in the soccer team about DCE, and asked them to visit a contest. I hope they will come along sometime."
Greatest drum corps memory: "I can't think of one moment. Of course the contest with Blue Devils was great, but for me it's not about just one contest, I like the activity as a whole."
