DCE Close Up (6): Hans

Publish Date: 01 Apr 2006 - 728 views

In the DCE Close Up series you will meet the DCE personnel. Who are these people behind the scenes who offer their leasure time to run drum corps events? In this episode we'll meet Hans Wansink.

Name: Hans Wansink
DCE function: financial manager
Age: 34
Residence: Dordrecht (NL)
Job: System controller 'Seats and Sofas'

Drum corps history: "I started with Rust Roest in Zierikzee in 1984. I played the trumpet for exactly six weeks. Then I moved to the drumline and played several instruments, like cymbal, bassdrum, tenor and snare. Rust Roest was transformed from a show corps to a drum corps, but in 1993 the corps ceased. Then I moved to Blue Spirit, and played the tenor for three years. When my work forced me to move to Dordrecht, I decided to join Jubal. After two years on tenor, I decided to put an end to my career on the field."

Working for DCE since: Winter 2004

Why? "Although I quit Jubal, I still wanted to be involved in drum corps. So I contacted Marco Janssen (DCE Office Manager), and we discussed which job would fit me best. Because of my finance study, we decided that I would become 'the financial guy' of DCE."

Is it fun off the field> "It sure is. Look at events like Finals or the contest in Kortrijk. Im enjoying every minute of it: the performances and their impact on the audience. On these days, I miss being on the field. But I simply don't have the time for it anymore. Being involved in DCE is great, because this way I'm still involved in drum corps. It's fun to be part of an enthusaistic team that wants to lift European drum corps to a higher level."

Greatest drum corps memory: "As a marching member, my greatest memory was the USA tour with Jubal in 2002. Especially the first big DCI show in Murfreesboro, it was amazing. We marched along with a lot of top 12 corps, and got a standing ovation, that was fantastic. With DCE, I thought the contest of Kortrijk was an absolute highlight. It reminded me of the tour with Jubal. All those booths and parking-lot sounds, it was just like a real DCI contest!"

Do you want to be a DCE staff member yourself? Please contact us, and we'd be happy to welcome you in the DCE team!
