At last it was time. The big tour has started. The big country America was waiting but there were some obstacles first. At first all lugage and material had to fit into the busses. In the end that wasn't a problem. An extra truck was the solution. When we arrived at Schiphol Airport everything had to be checked in. That was a somewhat difficult story. A group of 150 people going to the States completely packed is really something. And then the luggage band was broken as well. All equipement and luggage had to be put manually into big containers. The group was traveling in two seperate groups to the States. One group left for New York and the other left for Cincinnatti. Everything went without problems.
To go throug customs in the US is another story. Forms are always difficult and many members had to fill out the forms again. Due to the extra security checks it took more time than planned. The Corps left for our first housing in Marion Ohio. The first group arrived at 22.00 hours and could go to sleep. The other group from New York arrived at 03.30 in the morning, with a warm welcome from the other members. The corps was complete again, and it felt good. It was a bit strange for the group from Cincinnatti to be present with only half a corps.
Saturday, July 17
After the well deserved rest, the first breakfast was ready - prepared by our kitchen crew. Then shopping in the mall. All coolers were sold out. Other things like sun cream and drinks were really popular. Now we are ready for the real work. In the mean time we worked hard at the housing site. We have a great equipment truck which has been stickered with a great Beatrix logo made by one of our members. It looks great!
All is starting to happen now, the corps will rehearse for the first time and that will be a big experience for the members again. (Text: beatrix.org)
