Glassmen not on the field in 2013
Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps from Toledo will not be in the DCI competition this year. Due to financial problems, a corps can't be fielded in 2013.
It was already known that the Glassmen were in financial difficulties. In October, Interim Director David Stinson called for drum corps fans to make a donation to the corps. There was then a $300,000 gap in the total budget of $850,000 that had to be closed by 1 January. This appears not to have succeeded.
The main reason for the financial problems is that the Bingo revenues, which were formerly very lucrative, have reduced considerably in recent years. This to the extent that even organizing the Bingo now costs more money than it brings in. In addition, the costs of participation in DCI are increasing every year.
The Glassmen will now try to eliminate the debt and to ensure a healthy financial basis. Chairman Tom Sink emphasised that they are just pausing to catch their breath in 2013 and that this is not the end of the corps that was founded in 1961.
