IPE introduces Junior Classes
In order to widen the range of classes within the indoor percussion activity in Europe, Indoor Percussion Europe has announced two new percussion classes in 2012. The new classes are the Junior Concert Percussion Class and the Junior Marching Percussion Class.
In the Junior Concert Percussion Class, instrumentation must be oriented to the performance of concert percussion. Movement will be permitted in order to allow performers to change equipment or to allow for better presentation of musical performance only. The total performance time will be no more than 8 minutes (no minimum time). Because this class is not a marching/visual class, credit will be given for musical elements only.
The Junior Marching Percussion Class is focusing on junior percussion ensembles who want to compete with a full show. The total performance time will be the same as in the Junior Concert Percussion Class. Here is where the beginning European marching ensembles explore new challenges through performance and realise a greater sense of achievement as each more complex skill is learnt. In both Junior Classes the age limit is 16.
"With the expansion of these new Junior Classes, IPE is aiming for the junior percussion ensembles and junior show corps / drum corps who want to have a competitive challenge during the winter", says Erwin van Gemert of Indoor Percussion Europe. "With no minimum performing time this could be very interesting for kids to perform in the European indoor percussion activity".
