The Athlone Town Youth Marching Band were formed less than a year ago in September 2010, and already have 45 members.
Since 1936, the Irish Army Band of the 4th Western Brigade have been stationed at Custume Barracks, Athlone. Now a group of five retired army band personnel have decided to give something back to the community, and have formed and are training the ATYMB in music and marching.
The band has 15 drum, 7 saxophone, 3 clarinets, 9 trumpets, 3 trombones, pit percussion and colour guard. The bands new uniform is in the Athlone town colors of royal blue sleeve, white collar badge with black hat. Members come from all walks off life, and the bands emphasis is on enjoyment of the music and traditional Irish music.
The band are looking forward to putting on an entertaining show on Sunday, and plan to participate in all DCE shows in Ireland this season.
