The Cadets to DCA with new corps
The Cadets will participate in the Drum Corps Associates competition. It is not the current drum & bugle corps, but a newly formed group called Cadets2 that will be performing. Cadets2 is for young people who for one reason or another can't join The Cadets, for example because of the high cost or lack of time. Cadets2 will demand significantly less time of its members, but apart from that the approach will not differ greatly from that of the current corps. It is also envisaged that the level will not be much lower than that of The Cadets.
The plans for Cadets2 were announced by corps director George Hopkins. Remarkably, although DCA does not impose a maximum age limit, Cadets2 will be a youth corps with members aged from 16 to 22 (the cap might be raised slightly). According to Hopkins, the YEA association focuses on young people and this will not change with Cadets2.
The first auditions for Cadets2 will take place in December, and the corps will make its first appearance on the DCA contest fields in 2012. A special website for Cadets2 will be launched in a few weeks.
