Cadence temporarily withdraws from DCUK
After many happy and successful years, Cadence Drum & Bugle Corps will be withdrawing from the DCUK competition in 2005. Cadence have consistently reached the highest of standards in DCUK, winning the Open Class in 1999, High Brass in 2000, and High Guard in 2001 and 2004. The corps has also been DCUK runners-up on four occasions.
Cadence have always been a competing drum corps first and foremost, and 2005 is no different. Cadence will be competing in DCE as previously advised in 2005. The management of the corps has taken the decision as part of a restructuring of Cadence which will hopefully sustain the organisation for many years to come.
Director John Barclay said: "We feel now is the time to look at the long-term for Cadence. To achieve this, we are aiming to build from the foundations, a strategy which was successful in the mid-1990s for us. In tandem, we want to have a flagship main corps which can maintain the Cadence standards of excellence and innovation, and to do this successfully in 2005, we have taken the decision to open the corps to people of all ages. Our thinking is all geared to the future, not the present."
Cadence has two cadet organisations, and many current members have come through the cadets to be key members of the main corps. Therefore, along with competing in DCE, Cadence will be working to rebuild the corps from the grass roots, with more local performances by the main corps and recruitment drives. This will hopefully bring more kids into the Cadence Cadets and it is hoped that a junior corps will once again be established in the very near future to compete in DCUK once again.
Cadence are still very serious about competition and will be competing at the highest level in DCE, and it is stressed that although Cadence could be classed as a 'senior' corps, the attitude to practice and dedication will be no different.
Cadence are still looking for members for the 2005 season. More information can be found at www.cadence.org.uk.
