Corps more and more faced with copyright issues
On the American website Drum Corps Planet, a discussion started about the use of music compositions. It seems that more and more composers/music publishers have problems with their work being used by corps.
Breach of copyright has been a sensitive subject in the (American) world of drum corps and marching bands recently. Some composers will not authorise the use of their compositions or ask for a huge fee. People on the Drum Corps Planet forum are expressing their concerns at recent developments. Some wonder why composers are being so difficult when a non-commercial corps wants to use their work.
Bands of America has a list of 'difficult' musical pieces on their website. Bands are advised not to use this music, including pieces like 'Concierto d'Aranjuez', 'Riverdance', music from the movie 'Gladiator' and music by John Williams. Bands of America encourages bands to check with publishers before selecting their programme.
