Paul Morgan retires from DCE judging

Publish Date: 30 Aug 2009 - 752 views

Due to personal reasons Paul will be retiring from DCE judging at the conclusion of the 2009 season. In a statement to the BYBA Communications Chair, after making his plans known to the DCE Education Team, Paul explained the extremely busy calendar this year has made it difficult to dedicate more time to his Family, and that for the 2010 season he will reduce the amount of commitment that he makes as a result. This has been a difficult decision for him to make.

Paul is one of the most senior Judges in Europe, having taken up Judging in 1991, and holding previous posts of brass caption head for DCUK, deputy chairman of the DCUK Judges Association and further the chairman of the DCUK Judges Association for several years after, adjudicating in all but two DCUK Finals since 1991.

He has judged the DCE Championships since 2006, and a whole host of other shows under the DCE, DCN, DCUK and IMBA banners along with his colleagues within the DCE Judging fraternity and has been the DCE music caption head for the last two years as well as principal judges trainer in addition. Paul's successor as DCE music caption head will be announced in due course and after proper consultation has taken place.

Paul said "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with some fantastic people at DCE and within the DCE judges education team specifically, and were there more hours in the day or weekends in the year I would be continuing to help DCE Judging grow further, however, it is more important to me to spend more quality time with my family; Something that has not happened for the 2009 season, and so I am making some adjustments to correct that. I will continue to focus my energies on the BYBA judging fraternity, and would like to thank everyone at DCE for their fantastic support over the years and to wish my friends and colleagues there nothing but success for the future."

DCE adjudication manager Bruce Vrancken said "I regret that a highly respected and excellent judge has to leave our team. We respect his choice and want to thank him for all his efforts and work for the Drum Corps Europe judging team."

Paul remains as chair of judging for BYBA.
