Instructor from Thailand joined DCE Judges College
Junt Minalai, a staff member from Thailand travelled to Europe earlier this month to join the DCE Judges College in Dadizele - Belgium. He wants to use his knowledge about the DCE judging system to develop the drum corps and marching band activity in his own country.
Junti received his bachelor's degree in music education from Thailand Chulalongkorn University in 2003. He also serves as a clarinet player in many orchestras, such as the South East Asian Youth Orchestra, Thai Youth Orchestra, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra and the Pan Asia Pacific Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, Junt has conducted many marching bands from Thailand and has also performed around the world. Junt is the only Thai conductor to conduct marching band in Japan and receive a Japan national champion title with the Aimachi Marching Band from Nagoya, Japan. He also serves as an arranger and composer for several marching bands and drum and bugle corps in Thailand, Malaysia and Japan.
When Junt saw the information on the DCE website about the Judges College, he immediately booked a flight to Belgium. "I thought: this is my opportunity to learn about the judges training process with professional judges from the United States and Europe", Junt said. "It was a great weekend, and I received a lot of information about the process of judging. I have new friends now from Europe and America who are a big help to me in passing the DCE certification exam."
He will use the knowledge from the weekend to help the drum corps and marching activity in Thailand to move forward. "I would like to thank Marcel Matthijsse, Ann Legon, Bruce Vrancken and Bob Thomas from Drum Corps Europe for all their help. And of course all the judges for the great time I had during the weekend."
