Successful clinic weekend for European judges
In the weekend of 21st-22nd April, Drum Corps Europe organised the third edition of the annual European Adjudication College. Judges from the United Kingdom, The Netherlands and Belgium took part in the training course and agreed afterwards that it again proved to be a particulary instructive and practical clinic.
The weekend took place in the city of Bristol (UK), and was again hosted by DCI Judge and DCE Director of Education, Bob Thomas, who has also judged at the DCE Championships in recent years. DVDs and videos were used to give a deeper understanding of the judging philosophy.
Topics covered included the judging system (the 'criteria reference scale'), the allocation of scores (rating & ranking), the practice of tape comments and the responsibilities of the judges. Attention was also paid to judging 'performance' on the field and 'ensemble' in the stands.
Afterwards, the judges all agreed that this type of training is very important for increasing the quality of European judging even further. Bob Thomas himself was very impressed with the level of participation and commitment shown during the training course. Other clinics will be held on afternoons before DCE certified shows.
