Percussion madness at Masters of Percussion
Percussion fans were able to enjoy top percussion on Sunday during the Masters of Percussion event in Gent. The European Individuals & Ensembles for percussion, various master classes, an indoor percussion competition, a music academy student's final project, and Rhythm X in action: it could all be fitted in on one day.
The highlight of the day was a performance by the American indoor drumline Rhythm X from Columbus, Ohio. The day before, the ensemble gave a dazzling show at the CGN Championships in Eindhoven. In Gent, they did it all over again. The result: a huge standing ovation from the 850 spectators that had come to the Bloso sports hall, and many autographs from the American musicians adorning the T-shirts of fans.
For the Individuals & Ensembles, the titles went to David Lemant (snare, winner of the snare drum), Morgan Demathre (tenor), Ruben Cooman (keyboard), Showband USA (bass drum ensemble) and Cadence (percussion ensemble). In the Concert Class of the indoor percussion competition, Drum- & Muziekkorps KDF from Bavikhove came out strongest. The Senators from Eastleigh won the Marching Class.
All the scores and many photos can be seen on www.incorps.org. In the Cinema section, videos can be seen of Tim Jackson's solo and the warm up of Rhythm X.
