East Coast Jazz goes inactive for 2007 season
East Coast Jazz director Tom Chopelas has announced that the Malden - Massachusetts based Youth in the Arts organisation will not field the East Coast Jazz in 2007. The announcement comes after experiencing struggling bingo revenue in recent years, the financial driving force behind the corps.
"In addition, the added cost of a trip to the west coast for the Drum International World Championship in Pasadena would have required a huge increase in membership fees.", said Chopelas. "I did not make this decision easily. I have been involved with drum corps half my lifetime. We will, however continue our efforts to develop the financial resources that we will need for 2008."
Founded in 1992, East Coast Jazz has been a perennial DCI Division II & III finalist, winning World Championship titles in 1998 and 2005.
