Name: Rohalt van Schaften
DCE position: ticket inspector
Age: 32
Residence: Delft NL
Job: technician at orthopaedic company
Drum corps history: "I don't
have a drum corps history, but I have marched in a drum band for 25
years. When I was seven years of age, I joined the Drumguards from
Delft, and I'm still a member. I've played several instruments (snare,
trumpet, cymbals, bass drum). I'm the instructor for the cymbals and
bass drums too."
Working for DCE since: "This year, the contest in Dordrecht was my first contest."
Why? "It's what I like. I've
never had the time to march in a drum corps, but I'm really interested
in the drum corps activity. The big difference between a drum corps and
a drum band is the fanatism of the drum corps members. When I read that
DCE was looking for new staff members, I contacted them immediately."
Is it fun off the field? "My
first experience was the DCN contest in Dordrecht, and I liked it a
lot. I helped building the tents and guiding the traffic to the parking
lot. During the contest I was a ticket inspector. Having contact with
so many people is great."
Greatest drum corps memory:
"Besides the Dordrecht show, the best memory is seeing the Blue Devils
live when they were in Europe. I saw them during the World Music
Contest, it was truly amazing!"
