European drum corps season starts today
The European drum corps season will start today with an indoor contest in Witzenhausen - Germany. The contest is run by Drum Corps Germany and includes the German Individuals & Ensembles competition.
The DCG indoor contest will feature the corps Black Panthers, Blue Bandits, Blue Diamonds, Fidele Vogelsanger, Flying Drums, Red Stars, Starriders, The Devils, and Wölper Löwen. Since the contest is held in a sports hall, the corps will do a concert performance, with the Effect, Music, Brass, Percussion and Color Guard captions being judged.
The first outdoor contest in Europe will follow two weeks later (Saturday May 27th), run by Drum Corps Netherlands. Ten Dutch and one British corps have registered for this competition. This will be the very first contest to be run by DCN. In previous years, the contest in Dordrecht was held under the Drum Corps Europe umbrella.
Drum Corps United Kingdom will have its first 2006 drum corps contest on June 4th in Grantham. DCUK still has the largest summer season in Europe, with 8 competitions including the DCUK Championships.
The full European competition schedule can be found on the Dates & Places page of the DCE website.
