Senators win seventh DCUK title

Publish Date: 05 Oct 2005 - 667 views

Senators Drum & Bugle Corps from Eastleigh took the crown on Saturday as DCUK Open Class Champions 2005. This is their seventh DCUK title, and the third in a row. Despite the Senators' strong head start earlier in the season, the Kidsgrove Scouts still narrowly missed catching them up. In the end, there was less than one point difference between them.

It was a rather cold, but dry Saturday in Mansfield. According to one of the DCUK officials, this was the first time that the DCUK had experienced a completely dry Finals day since the 1980's. The top three in the Open Class consisted of the Senators, Kidsgrove Scouts and the Black Knights, who, despite a rather cautious first half of the season, have made terrific progress. Good enough for a solid third place with 89.2 points.

The top two both achieved results above 90 points, with the Senators gaining 94.4 points and the Kidsgrove Scouts 93.8. Prizes for High Percussion and High Color Guard went to the Kidsgrove Scouts, the others being won by the Senators. The shows were well matched, but the Senators scored just that little bit higher with their 'Mission Incredible' program.

Winners of the A-Class, Southern Aurora, accomplished a remarkable feat. As champions of the A-Class, Aurora were allowed to participate in the Open Class Finals in the evening, and managed to beat four of the corps. With 83.5 points, they ended up in fourth place.

In the Junior and Cadet Classes, the respective winners were the Staffordshire Knights and the 37th Kingswood Cadets.
