Selection criteria for DCE Championships 2006
Next year, other criteria will be used to select participants for the DCE Championships 2006. Date of registration will no longer be used as the basis for selection. Last year, the DCE Championships were full within six days, even though there were many more applicants. Good enough reason for another system to be implemented.
Registration for the DCE Championships 2006 will start on 1st November and will continue (in principle) until the end of the month. Anyone registering in November who reached the top 10 of the Open Class or the top 3 of the A-Class, Percussion Class or Cadet Class during the DCE Championships 2005, can be sure of a place in the DCE Championships of 2006.
Anyone registering in November, who does not meet the criteria, will still have a chance to take part. Seven 'wildcards' (free places) will be allocated by DCE. These wildcards will be distributed between corps not fulfilling the abovementioned criteria. When allocating wildcards, factors which will be considered include (but not exclusively) past achievements, and distribution per country and per class. No correspondence will be entered into with regard to wildcard allocations.
An additional requirement for participation in the DCE Championships 2006, is that corps participate in at least one drum corps competition in their own country in the same year. For the time being (although this is subject to change), this additional requirement only applies to:
Great Britain: DCUK or BYBA
The Netherlands: DCN
Germany: DCG
N.B: this only applies to the DCE Championships 2006. As of 2006, the other drum corps contests in the Netherlands, including the Dutch Finals, fall under the umbrella of Drum Corps Netherlands (DCN), for which the above criteria system does not apply.
