6th Hove unveiles new costume
6th Hove have unveiled their new costume at this weekends Northern Star Show in Batley - Yorkshire. It was exceptionally well received and the corps had a lot of people asking questions about it. In fact, it was the talking point of the day. Designer Sven Parris of 6th Hove tells about the vision behind the new look.
"Fashions come and go and generally follow the things that are perceived as 'cool' not the other way round. Cool is: dangerous, edgy and different. This is exactly what we want, there's no point in being 'safe', and we want to make a statement. We want to lead, not follow.
Whilst we want to be different there are certain conventions that we have chosen to stick with - we are a drum corps, we perform and compete with other corps and bands and our new costume needs to fit this criteria as well. We could have gone way out there and chosen a dance/WGI type costume but at present this doesn't suit our performance style or the stage in which we perform. We have made a conscious choice to go for a bib and tunic design- with a twist.
The costume was amazingly well received, and I'm sure will people will either love or hate it - we actually hope people will be stimulated to talk about it - isn't that the sign of a good piece of art? That it provokes a reaction?"
