A new ‘Atmosphere’ at Distant Thunder Show Corps
Distant Thunder Show Corps from Bedford - UK will start a color guard cadet section. From September, instructors Suzanne Bishop and Caroline Lawrence will be taking charge of the new section called 'Atmosphere'. Atmosphere will be run on a Monday evening and will aim to attract children from the age of 8 onwards to begin learning basic guard moves and techniques.
An emphasis will be placed on posture and movement incorporating dance with flags and equipment. The eventual aim of course will be that the youngsters will graduate to the main corps under the control of caption head Helen Tomlin. "Atmosphere will be using these skills to develop short routines to be performed as demonstrations at fetes and other events where Distant Thunder are appearing", chairman Warren Storey of Distant Thunder said. "As and when progression allows we hope that Atmosphere will participate in the winterguard cadet competition."
Both Suzanne and Caroline are dance trained with previous guard experience and are looking forward to the challenge ahead. As far as Distant Thunder Show Corps is concerned, Atmosphere is the exciting first phase in their project to bring to life a cadet corps and Distant Thunder is endeavouring to follow on with percussion and wind sections when possible.
More details will be posted in due course but in the meantime anyone interested in joining or wanting more information should visit www.distantthunder.org for more details.
