Attention to charities at DCE Championships
The DCE Championships will now also draw attention to charities. Juliana has taken the 'Dress Red Day' of the Heart Foundation to remind visitors of the importance of good research. And the Italian organisation 'Music in Motion' highlights the situation in the town of San Felice, which is still suffering after a devastating earthquake.
The DCE European Championships will now also draw attention to charities. Juliana has taken the 'Dress Red Day' of the Heart Foundation to remind visitors of the importance of good research. And the Italian organisation 'Music in Motion-Roncaglia's Band' highlights the situation in the town of San Felice, which is still suffering the aftermath of a devastating earthquake.
At the Juliana booth, you can make a donation to the Heart Foundation. When one of the members realised that Saturday is Dress Red Day, a special day where women are asked to wear red to raise awareness of heart disease in women, he knew he had to do something. And not just because the action fits seamlessly with Juliana's 'red block'. Marco van Ham also has a personal motivation. 2-year-old daughter Caitlyn of his girlfriend Veronique has to congenital heart defect. "She has a rare syndrome called Doors where the heart condition is life threatening enough that necessary operations will no longer be carried out, and she will never grow old", says Marco. "Despite all that are both Veronique and Caitlyn full of life and despite the limitations, they are happy every day and enjoy the little things that they can do. I really admire that."
Juliana will take a picture of the red block for the Heart Foundation on Saturday and will have a collection box at its merchandise booth. Marco hopes that drum corps fans will make a contribution to the Heart Foundationn."I make an effort because I hope that there will be plenty of research into new treatments", he says. "It will be too late for this lovely girl, but maybe it will help others in future! Every donation may therefore be vital for people who have the same disorder after us."
The non-profit organisation "Music in Motion-Roncaglia's Band", organiser of the 'Quando la Banda Passo' Festival, will call attention to their compatriots in San Felice. On the 20th and 29th of May, the village was hit by devastating earthquakes. 27 people were killed, hundreds of businesses were severely damaged and thousands of people were made homeless. Almost all hospitals, schools, sports facilities and churches have been destroyed or are inaccessible.
Four months later, the situation is still critical. 'Music in Motion-Roncaglia's Band' will bring music back to the village. It has established a 'Marching Music lab' with instruments, music and choreography programmes and with the cooperation of instructors and teachers, for the hundreds of children from the local primary school. "Hopefully our project will bring about another school drum corps", says Agostino Molinari.
He hopes that visitors to the DCE Championships will support the project by buying the special edition DVD, 'The Power of Music in Motion', which contains the best shows or fragments of international groups who have participated in the festival over the past decade. You will also be able to donate via bank transfer or paypal.
