No new corps home for Showband Marum
The Dutch Showband Marum is cancelling the plans for a new corps home. The corps believes that it is too big a risk to take on a long-term financial obligation right now.
The show band was eyeing up the gym at the Sportlaan in Marum as their new home. The board has worked on the plans for the corps home intensively for three years, along with a building committee and the municipality of Marum. The objective was to convert the gym into a centre for amateur arts, which would be accessible to everyone from the region.
The plans for a thorough renovation of the gym were ready. A number of grants had also been agreed and the largest part of the financing was sorted. "However, we have noticed that fewer people are active in club life and we don't want to take any unnecessary risks", the Board of Marum said in a statement.
The Board members of Showband Marum regret having to make this decision last night. The corps is fully confident about the future though. From now on, Marum will be focusing on the World Music Contest in 2013.
