Name: Andy Hewlett
DCE function: Announcer
Age: 43
Residence: Bristol, England
Job: Environmental Health Surveyor
Drum corps history: "Like many
people back in the seventies I began in a scout band. This went
independent in 78 and became The City of Bristol Drum Corps, who were
founder members of DCUK. Later I spent a year with Bristol Unicorns
before marching in DCI for 2 years, firstly with a corps called
Alliance, and secondly with the 27th Lancers. After returning to
Bristol I taught a number of corps, before starting Pride of Bristol in
1986."
Working for DCE from: 2004
Why? "Marco asked me if I knew
anyone who would like to it as he wanted a native English speaker, so I
volunteered myself, although I am not sure if Bristolian is a very
correct form of English!"
Is it fun off the field? "I love it. The DCE guys are a great bunch and I always look forward to working with them and having a few beers afterwards."
Greatest drum corps memory:
"There's a few. As a marching member, playing with 27th Lancers at DCI
Finals. As a director/instructor, watching Pride make their first DCUK
finals in 92 and winning Winterguard in 93. More recently I thought
last years DCE Finals was the best show I have seen outside of DCI, and
as an announcer I will always remember the Kortrijk show. How many
European announcers ever get the chance to say: From Concord,
California... THE BLUE DEVILS!"
