Different role for DCE announcer Andy Hewlett
Andy Hewlett is planning a very different role in Drum Corps in 2012. The DCE announcer is hoping to be back on the field, marching tuba with Kidsgrove Scouts.
Andy said "I went up to Kidsgrove for the first practice and was really impressed with what they were doing. Rob Swindells offered me a spot on tuba and I decided it was too good an opportunity to turn down. It means I've got to do a lot of work both on my playing and my general fitness, but if I can march a full season, including the DCA tour, at the age of 49, I'll be pretty pleased with myself."
Andy has been involved with drum corps since 1978 when the Scout Band he was in went independent and become the City of Bristol Drum Corps, who were founder members of DCUK in 1980. He later marched DCI in 1983 with Alliance and 84 with 27th Lancers before starting Pride of Bristol Drum Corps in 1986. He became DCE announcer in 2004 and joined the board in 2006 as the first English member.
"The down side of this is that I will be relinquishing my position as DCE announcer and standing down from the board. I've been immensely proud of my time with DCE and I would like to thank everyone involved for making me so welcome. Since 2004 I have seen the organisation go from strength to strength and I hope I will be able to be involved again at some stage in the future", said Andy.
The Drum Corps Europe board and crew want to thank Andy for his dedication and work for DCE. See you on the field!
