Jubal and Johan Friso have taken the lead in the first DCN contest of the year. The DCN season started with a bang in front of a full grandstand in Arnemuiden on Saturday. The 100 year-old Jubal outdid all other title candidates in the well-attended Premier Class. In the Junior Class, Johan Friso beat their competitors, Confetti.
Jubal achieved a score of 65.75 at the DCN contest, staying almost four points ahead of the competition. Beatrix seems to be recovering for the first time in almost a year, reaching second place (61.85). Defending champions Juliana had to settle for third place (60.70), although the difference between second and third place was minimal, just over one point.
Although the northern corps Con Spirito and Showband Marum are still trailing behind the top three, they are now fighting their own battle. With a difference of only 0.4 points, Con Spirito was able to take fourth place. The season has only just started, so closing the gap with the top three is still a possibility.
Fidele Vogelsanger finished in sixth place and had to give way to the Dutch corps, which all achieved higher scores. However, the corps is still rebuilding itself and was back on the contest fields for the first time in years.
In the Junior Class, Johan Friso had little difficulty taking first place (56.75). The other participant in this class, Confetti, coming from the same province, came second (38.45). Scores are available at www.drumcorpseurope.org/scores.
