Cadence 2005: 'Artistic Impressions'
In 2005, Cadence Drum and Bugle Corps will be performing a programme entitled 'Artistic Impressions' where they will be exploring three different types of artistic styles. Each 'exhibit' will have its own identity where we will portray examples of works within each particular style of Art.
The show is inspired by artistic styles used by Magritte, Monet, and Kandsinsky, and we will use popular Classical works by Mussorgsky, Rossini, Debussy, and Britten to portray these styles on the drum corps field. The audience will hear well known parts from pictures at an exhibition throughout the show to introduce each new style that we are about to explore, but the corps will never actually play any of the pieces in their entirety.
"Everyone at Cadence is very excited about the new challenge ahead for us in 2005", corps director John Barclay said. "Musically we will keep the Cadence identity, but the concept will take us in a whole new direction that will give the writers the chance to provide the Corps with an enjoyable, challenging and unique show, and something that will both entertain and intrigue our audiences."
The Cadence show consists of: 'Surrealism', inspired by Magritte (music from 'William Tell Overture' by Rossini), 'Impressionism', inspired by Monet (music from 'Clair de Lune' by Debussy) and 'Geometric Abstraction', inspired by Kandinsky (music from 'Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra' by Britten).
