DCE organises another Drum Corps Rocks the Town
Just like last year, participants of the DCE European Championships will be given the chance to set Rotterdam rocking on the eve of the Championships. With support from Rotterdam Festivals, DCE is again organizing 'Drum Corps Rocks the Town' for the evening of Friday September 28th in the city centre.
The event will take place between 19:00 and 21:00 during late night shopping. Five corps will be given the chance to perform their show program to shoppers in a concert set-up. "This is a fantastic opportunity to promote drum corps", says DCE PR Manager Dennis Naaktgeboren. "Everyone knows that it is almost impossible to explain what drum corps is to outsiders, and that they have to experience it for themselves."
The organisation Rotterdam Festivals gave DCE the idea to hold a free event in the city centre, so that shoppers would automatically come into contact with drum & bugle corps. This was a resounding success last year, thanks to the spectacular performances from the Senators, the 6th Hove Scouts, Distant Thunder, Jong Avalance, Black Knights and Northern Star.
"Even though there is only room for a concert set-up on the steps of the WTC, hundreds of people stayed to watch and were pleasantly surprised by the high level of entertainment offered by the corps", says Naaktgeboren. "Of course you never know how many people will also come to the Sparta Stadium the following day, but it is a great promotion opportunity for drum corps."
DCE is pleased to be able to organise Drum Corps Rocks the Town again this year. All the participants of the DCE Championships have now been notified and have until Saturday September 1st to sign up. Together with Rotterdam Festivals, DCE will then select the five corps who will be allowed to perform their show program right at the heart of a world city.
