that is being made by an independent film company from West Chester -
Pennsylvania, and that will be entered in American and Canadian film
festivals in 2007.
JTK Productions started filming scenes for the documentary in November, 2005, when the Bluecoats
assembled in Canton - Ohio for their annual banquet and membership
auditions for the 2006 season. A second 'block' for the film was shot
during spring training - when the corps learned the drill and music for
its 2006 show at The University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio.
The documentary will follow the Bluecoats' progress through the long
2006 season and the film crew also will be on hand for the DCI finals,
to shoot the corps' preparation for its final performances of the
season.
Half a dozen members of the corps â?? both present and past â?? have
already been interviewed and will help illuminate the drum corps
experience for film-goers who may not be familiar with the intense
rigors and the emotional highs and lows of the activity.
The film director, John Maher of Redding - Connecticut, said the film
is being shot in high definition wide screen, an industry standard, and
that it will portray a positive side of American teenage culture. "Many
American films portray a negative side of our culture," he said.
"There's a whole other, more noble, side of Americans that is largely
ignored by filmmakers and that is unknown by people around the world.
Drum corps speaks to some of our best qualities as a people. We hope
the film will do justice to these important ideals: sacrifice, hard
work, love of self and love of family. It's really a great subject for
a film."
