High Brass record third album
This weekend saw the UK's premier all-brass big band, High Brass, return to Parr Street Studios in Liverpool to record their 3rd album. An unrelenting rehearsal schedule followed by a grueling 96 hour recording session resulted in some of the finest playing the band has ever produced. Chris Jones (mellophone) claims "even at this early stage in the production process, it is sounding awesome and we can't wait for you to hear it."
Entitled 'Time For A Change', the majority of the pieces on this album have been written specifically for the band by Bob Curnow who has been responsible for some of the most exciting big band recordings of recent times following his work with the LA Big Band and the SWR Big Band.
Since the last release of 'Higher!', which features drum corps classics such as 'First Circle', 'Strawberry Soup' and 'Channel One Suite', Hign Brass has added a fantastic new rhythm section and some new faces into the brass choir. Although the tracks on this album are a closely guarded secret, according to early reports, the Curnow arrangements have exploited the bands use of unconventional drum corps-style instrumentation and his first hand experience of working with the famous Stan Kenton mellophonium band has given a whole new dimension to the band - those that witnessed the band playing at Kidsgrove Scouts 95th anniversary concert say the results are spectacular.
Although there is no firm date yet, it is anticipated that the album will be released in early summer.
